Recently, Star Wars fans were in shock over a news report circulating the internet about their favorite Jedi actor, Mark Hamill…at least for a short time.
Hamill, who is reprising his role of Luke Skywalker in JJ Abrams continuation of the Star Wars saga, was the recent victim to inaccurate reports by the media.
The Sunday Times had reported that, “Mark Hamill slipped and nearly plummeted to his death while scaling a treacherous Irish mountainside during filming for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” — only to be caught and saved by a fast-acting tour guide” As Star Wars fans gasped, Hamill himself was quick to respond to the report and assured his fans via Twitter that he was just fine.
False injury or death reports are not new to the internet, with many of them being a hoax to “click bate” fans. Most recently were the reports of another Star Wars alum’s death, James Earl Jones. This was the second hoax announcement of Jones’ death, the first being in 2009.
We are very happy that Mark Hamill is safe and enjoying his time filming episode 7. The “Force” will be with you, always! Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 2015.
