In the latest “DREAM” tv spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we see more of the “ground combat” theme that has dominated all the trailers to date for the usual “spaceship battle” saga. Could the Rebel Soldier ground troops finally get their recognition in the upcoming film Directed by Gareth Edwards?
Don’t get me wrong! My favorite parts of the original trilogy were the climactic space battle scenes, especially those involving my favorite ships – The X-Wings. I am just looking forward to a more gritty and raw ground battle movie that we are seemingly going to receive. It is very easy to show the plight and intensity of a battle from the ground as you see just how vulnerable soldiers can be while not in armored war machines. It’s not like we haven’t seen Rebel ground troops in action, we just don’t get to see them in action for long. As well, we don’t get to see how intense the battle is – especially when they are getting “pounded” by the Empire.
There are times while watching the trailers, that I get the same feel I did when watching the camera follow the soldiers landing on the beach in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. Despite the “re-shoot” rumors that some are reporting that the film has taken out the “war movie” theme, I am looking forward to watching the beginning of the rebellion and the soldier in the air and on the ground that fight it.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters December 16th.
