Mark Hamill Talks About The Last Jedi, Carrie Fisher, and His “Look-a-Like” on Good Morning America

“It’s so wonderful to be associated with something that makes people so happy and is escapism. People want to get away, we don’t want real life. It’s too harsh.” – Mark Hamill

As part of the lead up to the release of The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill, aka: Luke Skywalker, has been touring the world talking about the highly anticipated film.

Hamill stopped by Good Morning America and gave a fun interview to the delight of fans watching in the studio. I loved how he talked about how he felt regarding his return to the Star Wars franchise, and his “All or nothing” view to returning,

“It was kind of intimidating. We never thought they would do another trilogy and it wouldn’t involve any of our characters that it would be new characters.”, said Hamill, “I thought, it has to be all or nothing. It has to be Harrison, Carrie and all of us. I thought, Harrison will never do it (laughing), he’s so accomplished. When I read in the newspaper that Harrison had signed [to do The Force Awakens], I thought – Well, I’ve been drafted! There’s no turning it down now!”

Mark also talked about his relationship with Carrie Fisher, and you could see the love and feelings in his eyes, “It was intense! Because we blew hot and cold. We hate to admit that we were more like eachother than we would have said ourselves.”

One of my favorite part in the interview and what I have always wondered was what Mark’s kids thought about their Father being “Luke Skwyalker”. Hamill remembers, “I heard on a sleepover, [his] boys talking with their friends and their friends were saying, must be cool to have Luke as your father and Nathan says Luke Skywalker doesn’t tell you to clean up your room and do your homework!”

I like to think that, IF Mark was my Father, I would have loved it! Even if being told to clean my room! Of course, I could be wrong – I did like my messy room!

Finally, at the 4:13 point of the clip, we get to see a message from Mark’s “look-a’like”, Sebastian Stan to the Star Wars actor. Stan give a funny message addressing Hamill as his Father.

“At first I said, he’s way to handsome to be compared to me”, said Hamill when asked about what he thought of the comparisons of himself to Stan, “Then they morphed us together [in a pic] and then I thought – that is kind of spooky. But he’s a wonderful actor.”
