Star Wars Menu: Mix Your Own Jawa “Ooooo-Tini!” with This Recipe by Astrid Tuttle Winegar
After a long, hard week scavenging droids, your average Jawa likes nothing better than to kick back on the weekend and enjoy a refreshing alcoholic beverage. Water becomes so tiresome. Tatooine becomes so tiresome. It is, after all, the planet that is farthest from the bright center of the universe, to paraphrase Luke Skywalker.
In the recipe photo, I envisioned an old-school Jawa about to imbibe; he’s got his parasol to shield him from the heat and he’s about to relax. But along comes some new-fangled creature who can’t even keep his head from bobbling around who wants to move in on his treat. The full conversation goes like this: “Omu’sata. Yanna kuzu peekay; togo togu! Tandi kwa! A beton nya mombay m’bwa!” This translates to: “Shut up. This is not for sale; hands off! Give it back! This is mine, all mine!”
Besides the Amaretto, other good alcohol choices are clear, fruity ones such as St-Germain or Cointreau. Or try your favorite whiskey or bourbon. Make it non-alcoholic by substituting orange juice for the Amaretto.
Star Wars Menu: “Ooooo-Tini!”
2 ounces Amaretto
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
½ ounce lime juice
6-8 drops Angostura bitters
3-4 ice cubes
4 ounces club soda, chilled
Fresh ice cubes, if desired
Garnish, if desired (items such as maraschino cherries or citrus wedges or slices)
Pour the Amaretto through the 3-4 ice cubes into a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a tall glass with fresh ice, if desired. Or you may pour it into a martini-type glass and serve straight up, as shown in the photo. Top with soda and garnish, if desired. Serves 1. Make sure you are of LEGAL drinking age in your area. NEVER drink and drive!
